The city climbs the hillside with the Castle of São Jorge on the skyline and a dense network of streets, churches and monasteries. At top appear the arms of Portugal (left) and the city arms (ship of St Vincent, right). A numerical key along the lower margin names major sites (Castle, Royal Palace, Arsenal, Cathedral, São Roque, São Vicente, São Domingos, São Francisco, etc.).
