Engraving; 540 × 410 mm (sheet). Impressive bird’s-eye view of Lisbon from the Civitates orbis terrarum , looking across the Tagus and lively with shipping. The city climbs the hillside with the Castle of São Jorge dominant; the street network and principal churches and public buildings are finely rendered. At top appear the arms of Portugal (left) and the city arms (right), with a central wind-rose . Flanking cartouches provide identifying lists, and a long Latin text runs along the lower margin.
