Bird’s-eye view of Rome from the Civitates orbis terrarum , with the Tiber and its bridges running through a densely built city of churches, palaces and classical monuments; the Vatican area with Castel Sant’Angelo and the old St Peter’s, the Colosseum , and the Pyramid of Cestius are readily visible. Three costumed figures stand in the foreground; a very long alphabetical key along the lower margin names the principal sites. Verso printed in Latin headed ROMA ; page number “107.”
