Hand-coloured copper engraving; 305 × 430 mm (sheet). Decorative panorama of Rome on the Tiber , the skyline crowded with churches and towers; staffage figures animate the foreground gardens. Along the lower margin runs a quadrilingual caption (Latin, French, Italian and German) and, at centre, a cartouche with “No. 5,” typical of the series issued by the Heirs of Marcus Abraham Remshard in Munich . A separately issued view, earlier than the later eighteenth-century vues d’optique , commonly found in old colour.
