Impresso - SIXTUS V, POPE. “Summary of the heavenly treasury, indulgences, privileges, liberties, favours and graces… granted by the Most Holy Pope Sixtus V to the Arch-Hospital of Our Lady ‘in Portico’, of Graces and Consolation in the city of Rome, and to those enrolled as its confraternity.” Évora: Martim de Burgos, [1585–1590]. Printed broadside, 410×280 mm. Head with three woodcut devices (insignia of the Archconfraternity “B. M. Gratiarum et Consolationis in Portuc.” and arms), single-column setting. Horizontal fold, small stains (one more noticeable near the title), minor edge nicks not affecting text; contemporary manuscript endorsement/censor’s visa at foot; a clean, legible copy. A scarce Portuguese broadside propagating the Archconfraternity of Our Lady “in Portico” (Santa Maria in Portico, Rome), summarising the indulgences and privileges granted by Pope Sixtus V and intended to foster enrolment in Portugal. It lists spiritual benefits—plenary and partial indulgences on specified feasts and days, participation in suffrages, favours for the sick and imprisoned—and the conditions required to obtain them (confession, communion, alms and works of charity, church visits), together with faculties for confessors and authorisation to publish the graces in Portugal. Printed at Évora by Martim de Burgos and examined/approved by Fr. Bartholomeu Ferreira (Tertiary), it is a revealing witness to the spread of Roman archconfraternities in Iberia at the close of the sixteenth century.
