Damião de Góis (1502-1574), Portuguese humanist, diplomat and chronicler, one of the foremost representatives of the Renaissance in Portugal and a friend of Erasmus and Dürer, wrote this chronicle of Prince João, who became King João II, the Perfect Prince. The work was first printed in Coimbra in 1567 by João Barreira; the 1790 edition, issued by the Real Officina da Universidade de Coimbra, is the third Portuguese edition. Damião de Góis, who was prosecuted by the Inquisition in old age, is also the author of the Chronica do Felicíssimo Rei D. Manuel . Rare and esteemed.
