Ruy de Pina (c. 1440-1522), official chronicler of the Portuguese crown, wrote chronicles of several Portuguese kings by royal commission. The Chronicle of Duarte covers the brief reign of the fifth king of Portugal (1433-1438), marked by the disaster of Tangier (1437) and by the king's political and moral thought, as also expressed in his Leal Conselheiro . Published in the Bibliotheca de Classicos Portuguezes, a series of reprints of Portuguese classical texts founded and directed by Mello d'Azevedo in Lisbon.
