ALEIXO (António). ESTE Livro que vos deixo. Lisboa. 1969. - ALEIXO (António) ESTE Livro que vos deixo . Lisboa: Vitalino Martins Aleixo, 1969. 316 pp.; 205 mm. First edition. This Book That I Leave You... brings together, twenty years after the poet's death, the scattered and mostly orally transmitted work of António Aleixo: quatrains and sextets of popular wisdom, with a moralizing, ironic and sometimes challenging tone towards the society of his time, to which are added three plays in the style of Gil Vicente ( Auto da Vida e da Morte , Auto do Curandeiro and Auto do Ti Joaquim ). The collection, textualization and organization were carried out by Joaquim Magalhães. The book was an immediate publishing phenomenon: it quickly sold out, remained among the best-selling books for weeks, and began a long series of re-editions that would make António Aleixo the second most widely read Portuguese poet of all time, right after Fernando Pessoa. ⚑ Auto-translated via Google Translate
