REIS (Fr. Baltasar dos). LIVRO da Fundação do Mosteiro de Salzedas. Lisboa. 1934. - REIS (Fr. XXXVI, 204, [4] pp.; 225 mm. First printed edition of the text, although written in the 17th century by the Cistercian monk Fr. Baltasar dos Reis. Published here for the first time as an appendix to the Memoirs of Mondim da Beira , by José Leite de Vasconcelos, a town near the monastery. The manuscript constitutes a primary source for the history of the Monastery of Santa Maria de Salzedas, in Tarouca, one of the most important Cistercian houses in Portugal, founded in the mid-12th century. It recounts the circumstances of its foundation and antiquity, being an indispensable source for the study of the establishment of the Cistercian Order in the Douro region. ⚑ Auto-translated via Google Translate
