LOBATO (Alexandre). LOURENÇO Marques, Xilunguiné. Lisboa. 1970. - LOBATO (Alexandre) LOURENÇO Marques, Xilunguiné . Biografia da Cidade. Lisboa: Agência Geral do Ultramar, 1970. 310 pp.: il.; 240 mm. This study of the formation of the city of Lourenço Marques, now Maputo (renamed in 1976), is conceived by the author as a biography rather than a general history or urban planning documentary. Through overviews of social, economic, and political life across different periods, it seeks to explain how a precarious settlement became a city, paying attention to the hardships faced by those who made it habitable. Profusely illustrated and accompanied by maps, it is a reference work cited in bibliographies on the urban history and built heritage of the city. ⚑ Auto-translated via Google Translate
