George Washington Bicentennial and Patriotic Commemorative Covers with Related Ephemera, 1930s–1980s - This lot consists of commemorative covers and related material marking George Washington’s bicentennial and other patriotic anniversaries. Included are 1932 Bicentennial cachets with varied designs and multiple frankings, covers commemorating Washington’s Farewell Address, Washington Crossing (1932), and naval events such as the USS Enterprise victory at Tripoli. Later material includes Washington’s 250th Birthday covers from 1982 and related cachets produced for bicentennial events in the 1970s and 1980s. Accompanying the covers are two contemporary articles from Linn’s Stamp News (1982), documenting the bicentennial cover series and its connection to cachetmakers and commemorations in Boston. Together, these items provide a record of Washington-themed philatelic issues spanning several decades.
