19th-Early 20th Century Signal/Saluting Mortar - 19th–Early 20th Century Signal or Saluting Mortar, measuring approximately 20” long, 10½” wide, and 13” high overall, with a 2¼” bore. Constructed of cast iron with a heavy trunnion-mounted barrel set on an adjustable steel frame. The design and proportions are consistent with ceremonial or shipboard signal mortars used for firing blank charges during salutes or as line-throwing or signaling devices. LOCAL PICK UP ONLY CONDITION: Surface exhibits darkened patina with scattered oxidation and pitting consistent with age and outdoor exposure. Frame retains a functional pivot mechanism with remnants of original hardware and rope lanyard.
