U.S. Model 1863 Remington “Zouave” Rifle - .58 caliber percussion rifle, 33” barrel, manufactured by Remington Arms Co., Ilion, N.Y., dated 1863 on lock. Lockplate marked with spread-winged eagle over ”REMINGTON’S / U.S. / ILION, N.Y.” Barrel stamped ”STEEL” at breech. Walnut full stock with brass mountings and patchbox. Left stock flat shows a clear boxed ”BH? U.S. inspector cartouche (Benjamin Huger) along with a second boxed three-letter cartouche (appears ”HDJ?), likely a sub-inspector mark. Additional small inspection/proof marks present. Metal surfaces exhibit an even aged patina with scattered oxidation; markings remain legible. Wood shows expected handling wear, surface scratches, and minor dings, but retains visible cartouches. **DISPLAY NOT INCLUDED**
