Colt 1860 Army, US Martial, Factory Letter - Exceptional Documented Civil War U.S. Martial Colt Model 1860 Army Percussion Revolver with Factory Letter Colt Model 1860 Army percussion revolver, .44 caliber, serial number 77633, manufactured in 1862 and accompanied by a Colt factory letter confirming shipment to the United States War Department during the Civil War. The factory letter states this revolver was shipped December 3, 1862, in a lot of 1,000 revolvers to Lt. Col. G. D. Ramsay at Washington Arsenal, Washington, D.C. Ramsay served as Chief of Ordnance for the U.S. Army and was directly involved in wartime arms procurement for Union forces. This revolver remains in its original martial configuration with 8 inch round barrel, brass trigger guard, rebated cylinder, and one piece walnut grip. Matching serial numbers are present throughout including barrel, frame, cylinder, and backstrap. The grip retains a visible U.S. military inspector’s cartouche. Condition shows an attractive untouched gray and brown patina with scattered handling wear consistent with military service and age. Barrel address remains partially visible. Metal surfaces appear unpolished with no obvious modern refinishing observed. Original walnut grip shows wear, scattered marks, and loss at the butt. Mechanics appear complete. Bore shows visible rifling. An honest and authentic Civil War martial Colt with documented U.S. military provenance and strong collector appeal.
