1849 Ames US Artillery Short Sword - U.S. Model 1849 Artillery Short Sword by Ames Mfg. Co., Cabotville, dated 1849. Features a broad, single edged blade with fuller, stamped “US” and inspector marks at the ricasso, with reverse marked “AMES MFG CO / CABOTVILLE / 1849.” Brass crossguard bears “W.D.” and “J.W.R.” inspection marks, indicating U.S. ordnance acceptance. Wood grip with rivets and brass mounted pommel. Includes a leather scabbard with brass throat and drag. The scabbard appears to be an early reproduction replacement, with the brass throat stamped “JAPAN, ” while the sword itself is believed to be authentic period production. Blade and fittings display age patina, scattered surface oxidation, and wear consistent with age and handling. Grip shows honest use wear. A solid display example of a mid 19th century U.S. artillery sidearm retaining clear Ames markings and inspector stamps. 11 5/8 inch blade, 19 inches overall with scabbard. **DISPLAY NOT INCLUDED**
