U.S. Springfield Model 1884 Trapdoor Rifle - Single-shot trapdoor rifle manufactured at Springfield Armory. Breech block marked ”U.S. MODEL 1884,” with eagle and “U.S. SPRINGFIELD” on the lockplate. Equipped with Buffington rear sight. Barrel shows standard U.S. inspection marks (“V / P / eagle head”) at breech. Buttplate marked “U.S.” Metal exhibits a smooth gray/brown patina with scattered light wear and minor pitting. Markings remain legible. Wood stock is solid with handling wear, scattered dings, and surface marks. Sling present with “GATES” carved/tooled into the leather.
