Massachusetts Arms Co. Maynard Model 1857 - Civil War-era single shot percussion carbine manufactured by Massachusetts Arms Co., Chicopee Falls, Massachusetts. Break-action design with Maynard tape primer system. Standard cavalry configuration with saddle ring and bar. 21 5/8” barrel. Walnut stock with iron mounts. Markings include ”MASS. ARMS CO / CHICOPEE FALLS,” “MAYNARD’S PATENT / MAY 27, 1857,” and “POULTNEY & TRIMBLE / BALTIMORE U.S.A.” Serial numbers observed 1173 and 2263 (non-matching). Condition: Metal shows brown/gray patina with scattered pitting and wear. Markings worn but visible. Stock solid with handling marks, dings, and carved initials. **DISPLAY NOT INCLUDED**
