Sharps & Hankins Leather Covered Carbine - Civil War–era Sharps & Hankins breechloading carbine, manufactured in Philadelphia in the early 1860s. Features the characteristic iron-sleeved barrel (approx. 23 3/4”), single-shot falling block action, and brass buttplate. Receiver marked ”SHARPS & HANKINS PHILADA” with “SHARPS PATENT 1859” visible. Serial number observed in the 11,000 range. Standard U.S. Navy-issued Civil War carbine; iron barrel sleeve was designed to resist corrosion in maritime use but commonly deteriorates as seen here. **DISPLAY NOT INCLUDED**
