Dmitry Oreshnikov Metaphysical Surrealist Painting - A contemplative late 1980s oil on canvas by Ukrainian artist Dmitry Oreshnikov, painted in his distinctive metaphysical and surrealist style. The composition depicts an enigmatic landscape of softly undulating forms beneath a dramatic, cloud-filled sky, anchored by a solitary draped table that creates a dreamlike and symbolic focal point. Executed in a restrained palette of earthy browns and muted golds, the work evokes mystery and quiet introspection through its subtle lighting and atmospheric depth. This painting was brought to the United States in 1989 as part of the ”Exposition of Young Ukrainian Soviet Artists,” representing a period when Oreshnikov was exploring symbolic imagery rooted in the visible world while moving toward the conceptual and metaphysical themes that would later define his career. Presented in an attractive silver-tone frame. Sight measures approximately 22” x 19” framed. Dmitry Richardovich Oreshnikov (born 1957, Odessa, Ukraine) is a Ukrainian artist and member of the Union of Artists of the USSR (1988). A graduate of the Odessa Pedagogical Institute, he initially worked as an art educator before joining the Art Fund of the USSR. His early paintings focused on symbolic interpretations of everyday objects and landscapes, later evolving into conceptual, metaphysical, and surrealist works that incorporate a wide range of painting techniques and performance-based ideas. Since emigrating to Germany in the late 1990s, Oreshnikov has exhibited extensively throughout Ukraine and Europe. His works are held in public and private collections, including the Odessa Museum of Modern Art, the Odessa Center of Modern Art, galleries in London, and museums in Poland, Slovenia, France, and the Netherlands.
