Please note: old repair patches are visible on the verso. 14” x 18” framed. Benjamin Williams Leader (1831-1923, England) was one of Britain's foremost Victorian landscape painters. Born in Worcester, he studied at the Royal Academy Schools in London and became renowned for his highly detailed and atmospheric depictions of the English countryside. Influenced by the naturalism of the Pre-Raphaelites and later the tonal qualities of the French Barbizon School, Leader exhibited more than 200 works at the Royal Academy during his career. He was elected an Associate of the Royal Academy in 1883 and a full Royal Academician in 1898. Today his paintings are represented in major museum collections, including Tate Britain, and remain highly sought after by collectors of 19th-century British art.
