1920s 5c National Self Service Mints & Gum Machine - 1920s National Self-Service countertop vending machine manufactured for the Chicago Gum and Candy Co., Chicago, Illinois. Constructed of cast metal with a glass-front display, the machine retains its colorful original instruction panel reading ”Insert 5¢ - Press Plunger All the Way Down” and the blue front advertising plate marked ”National Self-Service Machine - Mints 5¢ - Chewing Gum.” The front display identifies six product selections including Clove Mints, Peppermint Mints, Wintergreen Mints, Fruit Gum, Peppermint Gum, and Spearmint Gum. A classic piece of early American vending history and a wonderful addition to any advertising, coin-op, vending machine, or Chicago memorabilia collection.
