Zhang Shanzi (1882-1940, China), born Zhang Ze, was a prominent Chinese painter particularly renowned for his depictions of tigers and was the elder brother of celebrated artist Zhang Daqian. His close observation of the animals, including reportedly keeping and studying live tigers, contributed to the remarkable anatomical detail and vitality found throughout his work.
