William-Adolphe Bouguereau (after)- Oil Painting - Oil painting on board after William-Adolphe Bouguereau's celebrated 1890 composition ”Les Petites Mendicantes” (The Little Beggars). The work depicts two young barefoot girls standing at a doorway, the younger extending her hand while her companion carries a basket and walking stick. Executed in the refined Academic Realist tradition associated with Bouguereau, with carefully modeled figures, delicate facial features, finely rendered clothing, and a dark landscape background emphasizing the figures. The original 1890 painting is in the collection of the Syracuse University Art Museum. Artist signed lower right. Professionally framed in an elaborate gilt frame with deeply molded scrolling foliate decoration. Good overall condition. 30” x 26” framed. William-Adolphe Bouguereau (1825-1905, France) was a leading French Academic painter celebrated for his highly finished figurative compositions, mythological subjects, and idealized portrayals of women and children.
