Emil Cohn – Salomo: Ein Festspiel Essen, 1913, 46 pages. - A rare copy of a festive play written especially for the inauguration of the new synagogue in Essen on September 25, 1913. The book includes a handwritten dedication by the author, Emil Cohn. The play is based on the biblical figure of King Solomon, incorporating dramatic, biblical, and historical elements to depict his wisdom and greatness as a leader. The book features a stunning color lithograph frontispiece, depicting King Solomon’s throne, surrounded by lions and eagles. Additionally, the front cover is adorned with gold embossing, including an illustration of a lion and the inscription “Salomo, ” giving the book an elegant and distinguished appearance. Printed by the prestigious Fredebeul & Koenen press, the book also includes graphic design elements by the renowned architect Edmund Körner, who was the chief architect of the new synagogue in Essen. Copies of this edition are particularly rare, as many were lost during World War II following the destruction of the synagogue.
