Asher LeDavid / Rabbi David Moatti – Livorno, 1876. Sermonic work by a leading Algerian rabbinic authority of the 19th century – Livorno imprint - Asher LeDavid is a collection of sermons and Torah insights by Rabbi David ben Shmuel Moatti (1796–1876), one of the foremost halachic authorities in 19th-century Algeria and Rosh Yeshiva of Etz Chaim in Algiers. The book was printed in Livorno in 1876, the year of his passing. Rabbi Moatti was a key halachic figure during the French colonization of Algeria, and he addressed many modern challenges of assimilation and legal reform in his responsa literature.
