Two Rare Matzo Paper Wrappers – Joseph Marcus Matzosfabrik, Cologne, Early 20th Century - An extraordinary historical Judaica item: a lot of two rare original matzo paper wrappers from the Jewish community of Cologne, Germany, produced by Joseph Marcus Matzosfabrik, active likely in the early 20th century—possibly even during World War I. Both wrappers are made of thin, delicate paper, astonishingly preserved for over a century. Each carries original blue paper labels with Hebrew inscriptions “Kosher for Passover, ” the producer’s signature, a Star of David, and printed tags with “Synagogen, ” “Köln, ” and more—indicating direct distribution to local synagogues. These large packaging sheets were used to wrap matzos for families or congregations and now serve as rare surviving witnesses to the Jewish life and tradition in pre-Holocaust Central Europe.
