Fine Limited Illustrated Edition – Heptaméron des Nouvelles de la Reine de Navarre by Marguerite de Navarre – Paris, Éditions du Pavois, 1945–1946, 4 Volumes, Copy No. 1697/1800 - Offered here is a beautiful bibliophile edition of The Heptameron, the celebrated 16th-century collection of tales by Marguerite de Navarre, queen, writer, and sister of King Francis I of France. This elegant 4-volume set was published in Paris by Éditions du Pavois between 1945 and 1946 in a limited edition of 1,800 numbered copies, this being copy No. 1697. Each volume features a rich red floral border on the title page and includes woodcut-style frontispieces printed in bistre tone by Jean Lebedeff, known for his stylized, expressive linocuts and illustrations.
