A rare set comprising the only two parts published of Devarim Atikim, written by Isaac Isaac Benjacob (1801–1863), one of the leading figures of the Hebrew Enlightenment (Haskalah) and a distinguished nineteenth-century Jewish bibliographer. Benjacob is best known for his monumental bibliographical work Otzar HaSefarim, a foundational reference in Hebrew bibliography. The pamphlets address historical and literary topics relating to Hebrew literature and Jewish tradition and reflect the scholarly spirit of the Haskalah period. The fact that only two parts were ever published enhances the bibliographical significance and rarity of the work.
