Kfar Atta (1942) – Rare Typewritten Arbitration Award Signed by Rabbi Benjamin Mendelson - An original and scarce typewritten arbitration award (rabbinical ruling) dated 1942 (Hebrew year 5702), personally signed in ink by Rabbi Benjamin Mendelson, then Rabbi of Kfar Atta (now Kiryat Ata, Mandatory Palestine). The ruling concerns a civil dispute regarding contracting and construction work, brought by Mr. Tuvia Tavchnik (possibly a member of the Tavchnik family, among the founders of Kfar Atta/Kiryat Ata) against Mr. Yeshayahu Bodenstein. The document illustrates the important role played by local rabbinical authorities in resolving civil disputes within the Jewish community during the British Mandate period, when arbitration before respected rabbis was a common method of settling legal and commercial disagreements.
