A magnificent large-format edition of Tafereelen uit het Oud-Joodsche Familieleven, reproducing the celebrated paintings of Moritz Daniel Oppenheim (1800–1882), widely regarded as the first Jewish painter of the modern era. Published in Frankfurt am Main and Amsterdam by Heinrich Keller and H. Eisendrath in 1882, with an introduction in Dutch by Rabbi Jacob Hoofien. The volume contains the complete set of 20 mounted photogravure reproductions, each mounted on heavy card within an elegant printed red ornamental border. Oppenheim’s famous cycle presents an idealized and deeply evocative vision of traditional 18th-century German-Jewish family and religious life, including scenes of circumcision, the rabbi’s blessing, bringing a child to the synagogue, Torah study, and domestic celebrations. The publisher’s original decorative binding, richly stamped in gilt and polychrome, together with gilt page edges, makes this an impressive collector’s edition.
