Celio Apicio - Celio Apicio - Of food and condiments, or the art of cooking., 1852. Vulgarized with annotations by Giambattista Baseggio. Venice, Antonelli, 1852. 8° gr. Binding mz. leather with corners, cords, title and decorations in gold on the spine. Some rare browning, but excellent condition for this rare first Italian translation of Apicius, which, as Baseggio explains in his introduction, is “A compilation made from several cookbooks” that later went down in history as the work of “the most famous of the gluttons” of the time of Tiberius. The fact is that De Re Coquinaria is considered the progenitor of cookbooks.
