Ciro Ferrara is one of Napoli's most illustrious sons, having come through the ranks of the Azzurri youth system to become the defensive cornerstone of the strongest team ever. His first-team debut coincided with the beginning of Diego Armando Maradona's golden era. Wearing his city's jersey, he was a key figure in the club's historic Scudetto triumphs in 1987 and 1990. In addition to his domestic triumphs, Ferrara was also associated with the 1989 UEFA Cup victory, even scoring a crucial goal in the second leg against Stuttgart. In ten seasons at the San Paolo, he made over 300 appearances, inheriting the captain's armband from Maradona himself.
