Eugène Joseph Verboeckhoven 1798 - 1881) - Eugène Joseph Verboeckhoven 1798 - 1881) - Pastoral scene. Eugène Verboeckhoven was a Dutch landscape and animal painter, lithographer and sculptor who, together with his brother, the marine painter Charles-Louis, was trained by his father Berthélemy Verboeckhoven. In 1816, Verboeckhoven was working in Ghent and took part in the salons of Ghent (1820 and 1824) and Brussels (1827-1860). His studio in Brussels, founded in 1847, produced a large number of landscapes and, in particular, animal pieces. His oeuvre is characterised above all by the depiction of sheep and sheep staffages in wide landscapes in a smooth painting style. He combined observation of nature, well thought-out compositions and an idealised depiction of reality. Oil on canvas , 99 x 79.5 cm
