Greek Icon of Saints Constantine and Helen, 19th Century - Tempera on wood with applied metal cross. The icon depicts Saints Constantine the Great and his mother, Saint Helen, standing on either side of the True Cross, rendered in repoussé metal and affixed to the painted surface. Inscribed in Greek above the figures: “ΚΩΝΣΤΑΝΤΙΝΟΣ” (Constantine) and “ΚΑΙ ΕΛΕΝΗ” (and Helen). The figures are shown in traditional post-Byzantine style, with rich robes and halos, set against a gilt background.
