Gottfried Bernhard Götz, 1708 Velehrad, Czech Republic - 1774 Augsburg - Gottfried Bernhard Götz, 1708 Velehrad, Czech Republic - 1774 Augsburg - THE TEMPTATION OF SAINT ANTONIUS. The saint, probably seated outdoors, wearing a brown robe and hood and with a long white beard, seated to the left in front of an open book leaning against a cross-like wooden trunk. He is surrounded by three devilish figures or demons, but they do not interfere with his absorbed and focussed reading. He has merely raised his right hand slightly in defence. Light seems to emanate from the cross, illuminating his delicate hands and his face with its reddened cheeks and slightly lowered dark eyes.
