Large 19th Century Russian Icon of St. Nicholas with Scenes from His Life - An impressive, large-format ”Vita” icon of Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker. The central portrait of the Saint is surrounded by 12 narrative scenes (kleymos) illustrating key moments from his life and his most famous miracles. The entire composition is covered by a magnificent metal oklad featuring a rich floral-scroll border and a prominent openwork halo. The level of detail in the metalwork, particularly in the architectural and figurative elements of the side scenes, marks this as a high-quality piece of 19th-century liturgical art.
