This exquisite 15th-century panel is a sublime example of Umbrian devotional art, characterized by its lyrical tenderness and meditative stillness. Represented in the Imago Pietatis tradition, the figure of Christ emerges from a circular tondo—a geometric symbol of perfection and eternity—framed by the instruments of the Passion. The delicate modeling of the torso and the serene, downcast gaze reflect the profound influence of the Perugian school, where suffering is rendered with a quiet, poetic grace rather than overt drama. The compositional balance is further enhanced by the presence of the cross, spears, and scourges in the background, which serve as silent witnesses to the narrative of the Sacrifice.
