Bidspirit auction | Baroque Allegorical Scene with Venus

Baroque Allegorical Scene with Venus and Putti - This intimate, square-format oil painting exemplifies the characteristics of late Baroque or Rococo decorative painting, likely created as a study or a ceiling fragment (quadratura sketch). The composition is centered on a celestial figure reclining on stylized clouds against a luminous teal-blue sky. Flanking the central figure are winged putti (or amorini); one hovers dynamically on the left brandishing a golden drapery and a bird/dove motif, while another below assists with graceful movement. Executed on a compact, square canvas support, the piece shows authentic signs of age, including craquelure, surface wear, and historic canvas distress along the edges, preserving its antique character and material integrity. Oil on canvas, 23.5×23” cm” . Dimensions 23.5 x 23 cm
