285 x 250 cm (9' 4" x 8' 2")
Turkmenistan, 17th or 18th century
Condition: according to age, low pile, foundation partially visible, slightly incomplete all around, missing parts and small holes backed with fabric, scattered small repairs, signs of use
Warp: wool, weft: wool, pile: wool and a few cotton knots

Saryk main carpet with Temirdshin guls originally from the UK trade. Rageth No. 47 with all details for structure C-14 dating, colours and comparable examples.
Indication for early production: aubergine ground color, contrasting with light orange and white wool (only a few knots in cotton), square form of main guls with highly precise design of clover leaf centers and similarly precise design of star centers in the secondary motifs.
Perfect spacing and interaction between the 2 types of the field ornamentation. The dimensions are comparable to early Salor carpets, both only to be produced in this precision by supervised workshop production during the early Merv period. In relevant literature this is the only example with a truly majestic appearance. All other Temirdshin gul carpets belong to nomadic production regardless of their early or later age.

Estimate: € 40000 - 60000
