Postal history. Pre-philately. Postage amendment. Letter sent from Lisbon to Sines on 19.12.1849, where it was received on 22.12. In Lisbon, the postage of 20 reis was applied, corresponding to a letter weighing up to 2/8 and for a distance of up to 10 leagues. However, Sines was served by the S. Tiago do Cacém post office, 16 leagues away from Lisbon, so the postage was amended to 25 reis. This error was recurrent in correspondence from Lisbon to Sines.
