Postal history. Pre-philately. Postage amendment. Letter sent from Vª Real on 7.3.1840, to Lisbon where it was received on 13.3. In Vila Real the postage of 40 reis (5th distance, weight 2/8) was applied, annulled in Lisbon because it was addressed to D. Francisco de S. Luiz, better known as Cardinal Saraiva, appointed Cardinal-Patriarch of Lisbon under pressure from D. Maria in 1840, benefiting from exemption from postage.
