Pre-philately. War of the Patuleia. Letter written in Le Havre on 27.5.1847, postmarked Le Havre, and marked PP of 19 decimes, and unable to come by land, it took the British packet “Iberia” to Falmouth, to come to Lisbon, where it arrived on 12.6. It was marked with the British P. and the postage of 600 reis applied. The postage of 600 reis is made up of 480 reis for a letter weighing 1 ½ to 2/8, for a letter from beyond the Pyrenees, plus 120 reis for the postage of the British packet for letters arriving from beyond the Pyrenees.
