Port. India 1917 valor declarado (insured) cover from Goa to London franked with two 4 tangas Vasco da Gama issues with a “Republica” overprint (CE 252). PLEASE NOTE: these stamps are from the second 1897 printing in a darker shade than the first printing. Refer to lot 24. Insured for 100 rupees. Red “INSURED” label on the front. Partial “Nova-Goa” registration CDS ties both stamps. Two “London” registration receiving marks on the back and 5 wax seals intact. This is a late and exceptional use of this Vasco da Gama issue.
