Pre-philately. Letter from the National Service, written in Leiria on March 25, 1837, marked LEIRIA LRA 5 in sepia, rar.5, for Alcobaça. Being a letter from the National Service, it should have been sent insured. However, it was not marked, and no marks from the Leiria National Service between 1835 and 1843 with an insured mark are known.
