Pre-philately. Letter written in Vilela on May 19, 1833, marked PENAFIEL, PNF2, rar.3, in red, addressed to Lisbon, handwritten postage of 40 reis. As the recipient was a member of a religious order benefiting from postage exemption, in Lisbon the 40 reis postage was cancelled by applying the mark FRANQUE/ADA LSB-PP6 rar.9 (only known in May 1833).
