Postal history. Letters arrived from abroad. Written in Danzig on 29/08/1823. Received in Lisbon on September 29th. It has no postal markings indicating transit or arrival. Only the following is handwritten on the back: “Postage to London 6/8; postage from London to Lisbon 10/.” We assume these instructions were written at the destination to be made available to the sender of the letter. This type of letter, without any transit or arrival markings, is very unusual. However, it did pass through the mail, as suggested by the inscriptions on the back.
