Postal history. Forwarding agents. FWA. Letter from Lisbon, dated 19.3.1811, via Figueira da Foz to Porto. Due to difficulties in land transport resulting from the French Invasion, the sender writes “Hearing of an opportunity for Figueira…”, he sent this letter by hand to Figueira da Foz in the care of a forwarder. On the back, the FWA wrote: “Received the 27th March and Forwarded the same day by yos Baker Whiting &C”, mailed it, marked FIGUEIRA FIG3 rar5 in sepia, and applied a postage of 40 reis.
