WWII ENGLAND CHINA HONG KONG – envelope circulated from Gravesend, Kent on 5.11.41 with 15 d. postage + 1/3 Health & Pensions / Insurance stamp (lack of postal stamps?) destined for Hong Kong, China, stamps obliterated in transit London 7.11.41. Due to the war, communications were interrupted and it was returned to the sender to Edinburgh, marked NO SERVICE / RETURN TO SENDER in violet. The sender's address is from the ship s/s Bencleuch of the Ben Line, with address at 28 Bernard St., Leith, Scotland, sunk in December 1941 near Cape Farewell, Greenland. Envelope with defects. Beautiful and intriguing piece with the use of the fiscal stamp.
