Portugal. Letter sent from England, Broaknell, on 29.4.1871, franked at one penny, and destined for Plymouth. It was marked in Devonport on 29.4, from where it was redirected to the Plymouth Naval Hospital, where it arrived on 16.5. There was handwritten “Not Known at the RN Hospital Plymouth”, and a piece of paper marked LISBON, to where it was sent, was pasted. It arrived in Lisbon on 22.5, where the sea postage of 160 reis was applied, plus 50 reis, and the total of 210 reis was marked. This last marking was crossed out and the postage of 160 reis was applied, the only one to be paid by the recipient. The closing band is missing on the reverse. Item of postal historical interest.
