Postal history. Maritime mail. English packet ship. The beginning of the Peninsular Steam Navigation Company's packet ship voyages to Portugal in 1835. Initially, letters were considered foreign ship's letters, marked as such and with the corresponding postage applied. Upon leaving England, they were marked ”Paid Ship Letter /date/ London”, with the postage of a ship's letter applied. The two examples shown are from November 23rd and December 6th, 1835. They are from these early packet ship voyages. ”Pr Steam”. A pair of very rare letters.
